UserEcho supports private forums, in settings you can mark your forum as private

And limit access by users emails or by email subdomain mask

When you add users system will automatically send invites to new users or grant access to existing if they match by email

how do you add a whole subdomain mask to the 'allowed users'? i only see an empty field where it seems i could add individual email addresses; but there are no instructions on how to enable a whole domain.

Is there a limit to the number of emails that can be added to the "Private user emails" list? Can it be 1000+? 10000+?

There is no limit so you can place as many email addresses as needed.

Also you can implement SSO (Single sign-on) feature https://earthsoft.userecho.com/settings/features/s.. That allows you users be auto-authorised on the UserEcho side without additional registration.

what about users who authenticate with Facebook and Twitter, how to control their access to private forums I found out that I can signup to a public forum and if I know the URL of the private forum I will be able to see the content there. There is no see and control access of users that are authenticated by other mechanisms than email?

User can authorise via Facebook, Twitter etc. but if he hasn't verified email, he will not be able to access private forum.

Most popular way, is to setup SSO Single SIgnon form your users, so they will be auto authorised on the UserEcho side and you can control access. More details here
